Q&A

Does a PTO President have to have a child currently enroled in the school?

Our president is the grand-mother of a former student. The school principle claims she can not be president because she does not have a child enrolled in the school? Is this true?

It depends entirely on your group's bylaws. How do they define membership in your group? Is it anyone who pays dues, or is it limited to anyone who has a child in the school? And do your bylaws list any further limitation on who can hold office (ie must have a child in the school)? If your bylaws don't have any of those limits, then it's perfectly fine for the grandmother of the former student to be president.
