Question: Principal Opposition

What if your PTSA does decide to disolve and start a PTO, but the principal is adamantly against it? Have their been instances where the principal could forbid dissolving a PTSA and starting a PTO?

What are the principal's objections? There's no difference at the school level between a PTO and a PTA. The difference is in bylaws, dues, and infrastructure -- things that are important to the parents who run the PTO but shouldn't really affect the principal. If you can find out his real concerns, perhaps you can address them directly and ease his objections.

We have a district of 11 schools so we have a central PTSA that sets rules and guidelines for the PTSA's at all the other schools. What I don't like about this is they don't want one school to make too much more money than the others. They call it keeping it fair but I believe it could just be laziness on the part of the chairs and that shouldn't affect my school. Having a PTO over a PTA would give us more freedom on the fundraisers we want to do and no one worrying we're making too much money.
