Question: speaking up- how should i address rudeness n disrepect towards our parents from the pta exc. brd?

at our most recent school dance i questioned the pta about the lack of seats for our parents, some where holding infants n some were just shy and would rather just sit back n watch their children enjoying themselves . the vice prez. rudely answered by saying" if they cant stand for an hour n a half then i dont know what to tell you" i then said " wait no you didnt just say that " she responded by saying" i've been here since 8:30 this morning so if they wanted a seat they should have helped out" while she was sitting on a desk relaxing. was i wrong in asking for seating ? but my real ???? is - how should i bring this up at our next pta meet? when the pta is a clik and i was there alone with them when this was said, but i do want the parents to know, how should i do so ?

I agree with you -- that's awful. However, I'd suggest assuming she gave you that answer in tiredness and frustration. Start by bringing it up with her privately. Don't be confrontational; let her know that you understand she was tired and frustrated. But use it as a jumping off point to discuss how your group should be providing customer service -- for lack of a better term -- to parents. The fact is, if you want them to get involved and volunteer, you have to show them your friendly side. Nobody wants to get involved in a group where the people are constantly tired and snappish.
