Have you approached your local grocery store? It's possible that they would sell items to you at cost or a significant discount. One key in approaching sponsors is to have something to offer in return for their donation. Can you put a prominent thank you in your newsletter? (Good) And include their logo? (Better) Have a "sponsored by" sign placed prominently where the sale is taking place? It's important to have a plan in place before you solicit a donation -- it doesn't guarantee success, but it helps.
