Replacing. Board member

Our secretary just resigned and we need advice on how to replace her? Do we have to have an election again, can the executive board vote someone in???

Our by-laws provide the procedure; you should check yours and/or Robert's Rules. I think you should have an election, so people don't think you're being cliquish.
