Question: PTO for Private for-profit School

I am working to start a PTO at a private for-profit school. The school director is wondering whether or not we can establish a non-profit PTO (with 501c3 status with IRS) for a for-profit school. Is this possible? I

You certainly can establish a parent group, and their are many things a parent group can do to serve any school. What I don't think you can do, however, is get a tax exemption for funds raised to benefit a for-profit business. I haven't heard of any PTOs at for-profit schools applying for 501c3, but I doubt the IRS would award it.
