My understanding is that to deduct it from your personal taxes, you should have a paper trail in case of audit. Also, the organization must be a 501c3 charity in order to make any contribution tax deductible. The alternative is to get reimbursed by the group for your purchase. For that, we recommend that groups require receipts.
