Resigning a position on the Board

When a person resigns a board position and then decide they want to stay. What is the rest of the board suppose to do?

This would really depend on the circumstances. If this person resigned in haste and then quickly wanted to return, perhaps there is a way to just put the matter behind you and move forward.
