My school was lucky enough to get a big boost from our county school board over the summer, which enabled us to finally purchase our long awaited playground. Our parents worked hard for almost 2 years, but couldn't quite get the total needed to purchase it. Since the day I got the phone call from my principal back in July this has been rattling around in my head. Bear with me I am not at all a writer. This was inspired by Laura Numeroff's book, 'If you give a mouse a cookie.' I hope it puts a smile on your face.

If you give a PTO a playground…

If you give a PTO a playground,
They will want mulch under it for safety.
The PTO will buy the mulch, but then will need volunteers to spread it.
The Beautification committee will help spread the mulch.
After 3 hours of pushing mulch they take a seat on the benches.
The benches start to wabble. They realize we better order some new benches.
While they walk around checking how many benches they would need
They walk across the blacktop playground.
This reminds them they need a good top coat put on it.
While checking around to find a company to top off the blacktop
The PTO president remembers, Mrs. Buck wanted an asphalt walking path.
Mrs. Buck grabs her graph paper and plans out the walking path.
She shows the plan to the PTO in the break room when the Kindergarten
Teachers come in to snack on some popcorn.
The kindergarten teachers don’t mean to over hear, but mention
They could use a shed for tricycles and scooters.
The grant writer frantically works on the Toolbox Grant from Lowes
To buy a shed.
When going to the Kindergarten playground to figure out where to put the shed,
they trip over the slides which used to be on the big playground.
This of course reminds the PTO they need to get a team together to make a unit for the slides in the Kindergarten playground.
Thinking of the Kindergarten playground reminds them of the mulch needed under the New playground Unit
Which was just Delivered Today!!

So be careful when you decide to give a PTO a playground.
