Do you have to have officers?

Do you have to have officers? was created by Stephanie
Hi! I am new to this. Our school is very small and recently disbanded the PTA. We wanted to go to a PTO for smoother running and less red tape. We tried to have our first meeting only 6 of us showed. No one wants to step into an official position, but as a group we decided to run it as a board with 5 to 7 members on it. Majority vote wins. I cannot find whether we can officially do this. If this is stated in our bi-laws can we do this? If not I am afraid we will not have a parent organization. So I trying to find out what or if there are set rules like the PTA or if we can just set our bi-laws up as we choose how we are going to run our PTO.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
