OUR NON UNION TEACHERS COVER LUNCH RECESS, AS WELL AS DUTIES IN THE MORNING AND AFTER SCHOOL. OURS IS A K-8 AND TEACHERS AS WELL AS AIDES COVER CROSSING GUARD DUTIES IN THE BUS CIRCLE, PARKING LOTS, BIKE RACKS, AND INTERSECTIONS AROUND THE SCHOOL AS WELL AS BEING VERY VISIBLE ON CAMPUS WHEN THE KIDS COMING AND GOING. I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY WOULD GIVE IT UP IF IT WAS THEIR CHOICE, BUT ARIZONAS TEACHERS ARE NON UNION, NOT MUCH OF A CHOICE HERE. I DO NOT BELEIVE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET UNION TEACHERS TO DO IT, EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO DO IT WITH A LITTLE PAY I DON'T THINK THEIR UNION WOULD LET THEM.

Ours is a K-5 elementary school in Texas with about 600 students. The Teachers share both lunchroom and recess duty on a rotating basis. It's a normal part of their duties, so there isn't any addional financial incentive. I'm sure they would love to be relieved of either (or both) but I don't see any movement in that direction.

Teachers do not cover recess time at our school, ever(they are union). My question is how many of you do have teachers on a rotation basis cover outdoor recess? A friend in another state tells me they pay the teachers $5 for the 15 minute recess on a volunteer basis. Paid out 2 times a year. Some teachers really love this extra $ others aren't motivated by the $. They do have paid aides but do feel a teacher can gain important insight into the social aspects of the child outside of the classroom as well as having that other type of "authority" on the playground.This makes tremendous logical sense to me but before I get on my horse I would love some feedback.
