Teacher on PTO board

Teacher on PTO board was created by Emily
We are trying to get a teacher to become a voting member of our PTO Board, and they don't want to do it. We can hardly even get teachers to attend the meetings. Is this not normal? The teachers don't understand why we want this, even though I have explained that it is to help keep the teachers informed, as well as make sure we are meeting their wants and needs. I would love to know how this works on other boards!

We do have a teacher on our board after all it is a parent, TEACHER, o. They have always filled the position of recording secretary. We rarely have teachers at meeting either. Having one on the board helps us stay connected. Let's us know what works what doesn't and what they need.

In our school, both parents and teachers actively fill Board positions. It is a parent teacher organization and all members, including parents, teachers, staff and community members should participate. In our school, most meeting participants and volunteers are our teachers.

We as actually have several teachers come to our p.t.o meetings, which are held the second Tuesday of the month in the evening. One in particular is the go between. She takes care of any requests the teachers may have or any questions we may have for them. It would be beneficial for at least one teacher to join your p.t.o. Good luck!

I am a mom, teacher and PTO president. It's very interesting to see the many different points of view that each "job" brings. This works at our school. I would love to hear how other schools handle this.

We have lots of teachers join our PTA but hard to get them more involved. However, we are fortunate that our Principal, Asst. Principal, Counselor and a Parent Community Coordinator are all "unofficial" board members. Maybe you need to find someone other than a classroom teacher to be the liaison. Our counselor helps us a ton, as well as the PCC. They have more flexible hours and are often available to us during school hours when classroom teachers are not, even if they would like to be.
