Help with starting a new program

9 years 11 months ago #153239 by JennK
I love the idea of asking teachers for a wish list of items they would like to have for their classroom. I am uncertain though how to write up a form explaining what I would like from them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to present this idea or a form they use for a program like this? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi JennK-
I just went through our file exchange and could not find an existing wish list form or flyer. I can tell you what we did at my kids' elementary school. Every year, at the end of October/ before the winter holidays we sent around an email to the teachers asking what they would like to add to their wish list. Most teachers said that they would prefer stuff for their classroom rather than holiday gifts. In the email we gave them some examples: markers, stickies, band-aids, kleenex, cleaning supplies, gift cards to book stores or office supply stores, etc. Teachers then emailed back their list and we compiled the lists by teacher and published it in the November and December newsletters and on our website.

Hope this helps. If you come up with something you'd like to share with other leaders, we'd love it if you uploaded the document to our File Exchange .

Thank you Lisa for your reply. I am working on a possible letter to our teachers to let them know about the program and space for them to fill in their requests. I will upload it when I am finished.

I believe there is a teacher wish list on the box tops web site - we currently collect box tops, labels and use the marketplace section with great rewards and this year I want to implement the teacher wish list section

A few years ago, the teachers put up a cut out of a tree (about 2 ft tall w/ brances) and used apple die cuts to write out their wishes. The apples were stapled to the tree with the "wish" and room number. Then parents could pick an "apple" and fulfill the teacher's wish. This was set up for "back to school" night and stayed up until December break. I know I fulfilled a lot of wishes for pencils since I had stockpiled them at home from a Staples penny sale.

It was great being able to help not only your child's teacher, but other classrooms as well.

Maybe talk to the principal about doing something like this and sending out apples to the teachers to write their wishes.
