Back to school?

We don't have the Star Wars movies...yet!...but my son got a Darth Vader voice changer for Christmas. If I hear, "You don't know the POWAH of the dahk side," one more time, I think I am going to scream. :D

I wished I could help you Melissa. I love the library. Not enough to become a Media Specialists. ;) Too many cords and modern technology to keep with now days.

Oh, mykids...it isn't just the fiction that is in trouble. 5th graders were allowed to help reshelve books, and it appears that they don't know that 333.25 comes AFTER 333.0 in the Dewey Decimal system. We have closed off the non-fiction shelves, and probably won't have them open for another month or so.

Here is my favorite. Everybody knows that we read from left to right. Well...in our fiction section the A's start at the top right-hand corner. Still can't figure that one out.

Then there is the matter of "lost" library books. The old librarian had approxmately 10 books checked out for one child, and even more for another. My daughter fell victim to the "lost library book syndrome" last year. If it had been one of my other two, I would have believed it, but not from Erika, my responsible child. It was easier just to pay the $5 than fight, and the book was found close to the end of the year on the wrong shelf. We have decided to forgive all debts unless the child comes to us and says, "My dog ate it." Which did happen the last week of school, BTW. :D

The way I see it is it's probably going to be a job that goes into summer, but for me it will be a labor of love. Books are something that I just can't get enough of.

Here in sunny Colorado some of us go back Tuesday and some of the schools south of Denver go back later this week. We have been out since Dec 16th while they got out the week of the 20th.

** Hey Melissa, sounds like you may just have to close the library for a couple days to clean up and taking inventory (mainly to help get your non-fiction back in shape) would be your best bet. When in high school, the last two weeks of school the library was closed to do this while we still allowed AV equipmant to be borrowed and students needing materials for research were given special permission.
Our last media specialist decided to mix her personal books from her classroom (former 4th grade teacher) in with the library....nightmare! Anyway, it'll be extra work but worth the effort.

In the central Texas area, most of our school districts seem to be returning tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 3rd).

Generally speaking, everyone has found it's beneficial to have a short week when school starts in the Fall and after winter break. It makes it a little easier for everyone to settle in.
