“As the volunteer coordinator for Fred Moore Middle School, I inherited a large ‘giving tree’ that I would display during open houses and parent-teacher conferences. Parents could remove a construction paper request slip listing an item or items that a particular teacher needed for their classroom. After the fake tree was tipped over one too many times, I put in the Volunteer section of our school’s website...a colorful graphic of a tree with a list of needed items and the teacher’s name and department. If I haven’t received anything for a while, I will send out a reminder to volunteers with a link to the giving tree asking them to take a look and make a teacher’s day.”
