Our PTO purchased reusable grocery bags (purchased in September with school themes) and we set up “Projects-to-Go” Bags. The PTO made up a form that teachers and staff can fill out with information about a project that can be done at home. Most involve stapling, folding or cutting of materials. The project bags have their own spot in the school office with a clipboard. We ask helpers to sign out the bag so there is a way to follow up. We can also send a "Project-to-Go" Bag home with a student if the student takes the bus. The forms have a due date, so the helper knows when the project is needed back at school. We put all the supplies that will be needed to complete the project (like staplers, staples, and rubber bands). The PTO also made up "thank you" notes and treats (like microwave popcorn and small juice boxes) in the bags. Helpers have included parents & grandparents—and it has worked especially well for working parents who are not available to help at school during the school day, but can complete a project at home in the evenings or weekends.
