Sometimes it’s hard to find the time to run a club. But the PTA at the Walker School in Clarendon Hills, Ill., created a writing club that starts at 7:45 a.m. Children are welcome to write about topics that interest them and are also provided with themes or writing prompts as needed. Four volunteers, two of whom are former elementary school teachers, are on hand to help the kids with their writing. It’s a low-key atmosphere, and students’ work is not rated or graded.
