We don't think you are going about it in the wrong way! Movie nights can be fundraisers, but we also recommend that parents consider doing movie nights as strictly a community building effort. Sometimes, it is nice to have families come together and spend time as families without it being cast as a way for your group to make money.

When we do a movie night we do not charge people to attend. However we do sell refreshments. Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, popcorn, lots of candy, juice boxes, soda, water. This year we are thinking of adding a few raffles too.
I like that it is a free event, no pressure to spend money. A few families do bring their own snacks but for the most part everyone ends up buying something.

Thanks for sharing, MommyCBN! It's nice to have the option for families to bring their own snacks, too!

Just to clarify, if you want to make your movie night a fundraiser, the way MommyCBN does it is the right way. The public viewing license you purchase to show a movie doesn't allow you to charge admission beyond covering your costs.
