Q&A

test scores

I need to know what other PTO's are doing to help raise test scores.

What we see is PTOs tackling the issue of school success more broadly. Ultimately, the work of a PTO can and does impact test scores, but what we see are parent volunteers providing or supporting enrichment programs, clubs, and guest speakers that are intended to help kids academically, and ultimately, then, with test scores. We have many great stories on how PTOs provide enrichment programs, including:

One more, if you haven't had too much reading yet! The article Make It an A+ Year looks at the topic in a somewhat holistic way -- what things can you do as a group to improve the academic performance of students. We also have an Academics & Enrichment topic page with lots of helpful links.

Although I'm not sure you could directly correlate higher test scores, PTO funds are used for our Accelerated Reader and IXL math student accounts.

Last year our PTSO held an assembly to kick off testing week. It put the kids in good spirits before they were tested. We had a magician come in, the kids loved it.
