We were a little nervous to try something new but it really paid off....we made the most money we've ever made with EcoFresh USA. Its a company that sells 100% natural cleaning products (so yes its safe for the kids, and my own kids actually like to clean with it!). They were so easy to work with, they sorted and packed every single order, gave us a website where we could direct parents and out of town family too. I think it was so successfull because its a consumeable product-everyone needs to clean so therefore it wasn't hard to sell these products at all, we will definately do this one again I believe my reps name was casey owens but you can request more info at ecofreshfundraisers
John, we are a small (166 elementary and middle school students) private school and we have chosen to ONLY do 2 fundraisers a year. We do not sell things door to door, as our parents have told us they do not want to do that. Instead, we have an auction/gala in the fall and a walkathon in the spring. The Auction typically brings in $25,000 and the Walkathon $16,000 but they are both labor intensive.
We also do SCRIP which brought in $7,500 last year.
If you are looking for a fundraiser which does not require a lot of parent involvement, I highly recommend a Mom2Mom sale, or a scrapbook fundraiser. These do not need a lot of workers, but they do need a lot of advertising and planning.
We tried to have a Mom2Mom sale about 5 years ago, and it didn't go very well, because no one in my city knew what it was. Now I see several of them at other places, so I think it might go over better. I was the only person who worked it, and it raised $250.
I have had better success with the crop. It all depends on how many scrapbookers you can get into your space. My first year, I made $3500 profit. If you would like more information on either the mom2mom sale or the crop, I have detailed notes I would be more than happy to share.
The best thing about these 2 fundraisers (besides the small amount of labor) is that the money does not come from the school families. It comes from anyone in the community who chooses to participate. How many times have you had to write a check for all the candy bars that your family ate or cannot account for?

For years it was our catalog sale-- but has since changed--
Our mom-2-mom sales are run like a very large garage sale for famlies-- we host 1 fall and 1 speing sale-- not a lot of work involved, mostly pre-selling the tables-- and it is not just to families from the school--
second would be a big mix between our Fair which is going on it's 30th year/ Santa's shop/ pizza kit/cookie dough/entertainment book sales-- these 5 make about the same amount each year and are all great for different reasons-- we only ask parents to participate in the events/fundraisers they want to and can afford... we don not expect everyone to participate in everything we offer - we run our school year like a menu--- picks what works for you.
1st was the spring carnival (tickets)
2nd we ran a Sand Art booth at the local festival
3rd the small coupons on the boxes of food (is that round about enough!!!!!)
Our most successful fundraiser by far has been our school Auction. It requires a lot of effort and you do need a lot of volunteers but it is so worth it. It's great way for parents to bond and our school has raised @ 80K/year even the past couple of years/
