Do you keep track of volunteer hours?

19 years 6 months ago #111217 by mum24kids
I don't spend that much time at school--maybe 10-14 hours a month or so. Most of that time is spent on a reading program, not parent group activities. I spend much more time at home working on school related stuff.

We do track all the volunteer hours both for grant statistics and for volunteer recognition. Besides, our school district makes us--theoretically for budget discussions, but no one really knows for sure.

We keep track of volunteer hours to the best of our ability. The volunteers are responsible for keeping track of their own hours and submitting them. One our of parents who can't volunteer during the day adds up the hours and keeps track. We send out letters each year, thanking our volunteers. With the information on their number of hours, we are able to personalize the letters. We are also thinking about special recognition programs for those who are volunteer an especially large number of hours.

This year is the first year that as a school we are trying to track volunteer hours, we also started volunteer orientation. Being a new thing I have to say that we had 26 volunteers attend the orientation, we have continued to push the district volunteer application as well as profiles for all volunteers. As far as logging hours I would have to say that probably school wide we have 85% doing it and working on the other 15%. It really wasn't a big thing and most people are more than willing to do it!

JHB had posted a couple of months ago that the average volunteer hour was $17.19 (somewhere in that area). We are a Title I school and we have other grants that depend on volunteer hours to receive money for the district.

Right with you Shelly.
This week a couple of us was at school working on a huge flowerbed that we are trying to get planted before winter.
I mentioned to them that I had read HERE that some places do keep track of vol. hours....
I got looks that I had never seen before..
MOST did not know what I was talking about.
I was sorta unable to help them on some ?? because this was the first time I had heard of it.
Could someone please tell me...WHY? we would need to do this....other than to just keep up with it.
I did have one mother that was helping me..she moved down to AL from MI 2 years ago..She said that they did this at her kids last school.(oh btw she is supper mom to us she has 12 kids)

Isn't it funny how it's different everywhere? Our parents would look at me like I had three heads if I told them they had to log volunteer hours!

Wow, I like the idea of swiping your driver's license for school visitors. Boy, that is high-tech!
