Summer PTO To Do List

Use the summer break for advance planning and hit the ground running once school starts again.
-
Schedule a meeting with the principal as close to the start of the school year as possible to talk about about how your group can support the school. When your PTO and principal are in sync, everyone benefits! Share a link our Principal hub with your school principal for more ways they can collaborate with the PTO.
-
Plan a couple of summer board meetings to share thoughts and information for fall. (It’s also a good way for new officers to get to know others better).
-
If you haven't already, make sure your school's supply lists are posted on TeacherLists.com (our sister site). Parents can shop your school's exact lists in one click! If you prefer prepackaged school supply kits, check out EduKit.
-
Take care of your teachers. Plan a welcome back appreciation gesture with these fun ideas!
-
If you’re allowed into your school during summer, think about sprucing it up: tidying the front of the school, washing main windows, and updating your bulletin boards can give everyone a boost.
-
Appoint someone as the summer communication lead for your website and social channels to keep those resources quickly updated with information about going back to school. We have lots of ways your PTO can keep parents engaged over the summer (hint: get your school mascot ready!)
-
Review your bylaws. Be sure that you’re familiar with them and that overall they’re up to date.
-
If you haven’t yet, join our PTO and PTA Leaders & Volunteers Facebook group. With more than 57,000 leaders and volunteers like you, you’ll find connection and information when you need it.
