What does a PTO "Sunshine Committee" or "Sunshine Coordinator" do?
Many PTOs create a Sunshine Committee (or assign a Sunshine Coordinator) to focus specifically on staff appreciation throughout the school year. This role doesn’t mean planning elaborate events every month. Instead, the goal is to create consistent, thoughtful moments that help teachers and staff feel supported.
A Sunshine Committee might:
- Plan a monthly treat cart schedule
- Choose themes and treats that fit the school calendar
- Coordinate volunteers to shop, assemble, and deliver treats
- Collect donations or create a small appreciation budget
- Add personal touches like thank-you notes or staff shout-outs
