When teachers join the PTO, magic happens—they help plan events and fundraisers that truly fit the school’s needs, boost turnout, improve communication, and create that “we’re all in this together” feeling between parents and staff. Teachers have a front-row seat to the inner workings of the school, and their insights are pure gold! In our latest piece, we share why recruiting teachers is a win-win and include a free “Teachers Wanted to Join the PTO” flyer to make it easy. Pro tip: Don’t just drop flyers in teacher mailboxes—hand them out personally with a smile and a quick “hi.” Start with a few teacher PTO fans (they’ll help rally the rest of the staff!). Also, consider appointing a "teacher liaison" to spread the word about fundraisers and events to their fellow teachers.

Why Teacher Involvement in the PTO Is a Win-Win

  • Insider POV: Teachers know what students and staff actually need, so your PTO projects hit the mark. Teachers are "in it", so they're able to bring fresh, practical ideas that make PTO efforts even more impactful.
  • Better communication: Having a teacher in the room with the PTO keeps parents and school staff on the same page. Teachers are also more likely to advocate for your PTO initiatives when they're part of the planning process.
  • Stronger school events: Teachers are great at rallying students and other staff members, boosting participation and turnout at PTO events and fundraisers. Having teachers on the PTO is like having a sounding board when your group needs to garner support from school staff.
  • Relationship building: Having teachers on the PTO fosters teamwork between involved parents and staff, and builds trust and teamwork between families and school staff for a more connected community.
