Get the Viral Composition Notebook Banner for Your PTO Events (Free Template)
The viral composition notebook banner is now a free Canva template! Customize it for your PTO or PTA and create a back-to-school display that families won't be able to miss.
If you've been doomscrolling social media for PTO back-to-school ideas (🙋♀️), you probably came across the viral composition notebook banner in your feed and immediately sent a screenshot to the PTO group chat with something like, "FOR OPEN HOUSE!?"
So, to make life easier for PTOs everywhere, we did a thing and created a free, customizable composition notebook banner in Canva that your group can personalize, print, and display at school events.
Inspired by the iconic composition notebook design we've all known for years (shout out to our friends at Mead!), this free 2' x 6' composition notebook banner brings a little 90's school nostalgia to your PTO table and helps your group stand out at school events.
Whether your PTO is welcoming families at an open house, meet-the-teacher night, kindergarten orientation, or glow bingo, a branded PTO table is one of the easiest ways for your PTO to look organized and approachable. Plus, when families can easily spot your group, they're much more likely to stop by and (here's hoping 🤞) ask how they can get involved.
Below, you can download the free banner template and learn how to customize and print it. Add the coordinating (and super cute) black and yellow table signs and flyers from our free 1 Hour for Schools Volunteer Toolkit, and you'll have a welcoming, cohesive setup that helps turn conversations into volunteers. PTO tablescaping. Is it a thing? If not, we're officially making it one.
Note: this banner is part of our FREE 1 Hour for Schools volunteer recruitment toolkit, which includes printables and social media graphics that encourage parents and caregivers to give just one hour of their time to support their school community.
How to Customize & Print Your Banner
Step 1: Open the banner in the Canva app
All the text on this banner is editable. The current school name is a just place holder. It's easy to swap in the name of your school’s parent group, and to edit the supporting text, too.
- Click on any text to edit it. A box appears around the text that will be affected.
- The first step is to replace the existing placeholder text with your own school’s name. Other banner text is also customizable. For example, if you are organized as a PTA or other type of parent group, you can change that text as well.
- Further customize your banner if desired. You can change fonts, colors, and sizes using the toolbar at the top.
- Don’t forget to double check spelling and all your edits for accuracy!
Step 2: Download your design
When you're happy with the customization, click the download button in the top right corner. It looks like an arrow with a line below it. The file will download as a PNG file, which is perfect for sending to a printer. Most phones will save the image to your camera roll.
Step 3: Choose a printer
We used Walgreen's because it was close by and we needed same day pick up (#PTOlife, right?). Navigate to the Walgreens Photo section and look for "Posters & Banners". Then:
- Under material, select "banner paper".
- For size, select 2x6.
- Click the “Create now” button.
- Click the “Upload photos” button.
- Choose “from my phone” on the pop-up menu. Walgreens will start a new album with today’s date. Click the “Select photos” button. Navigate to your photo library and choose the banner image you just downloaded from Canva.
- Click done and add to project.
- You’ll see your banner and your price. Preview carefully to be sure important elements are appearing as you intend.
- Next, proceed to cart. Before you check out, see if you can find a current coupon code online. Walgreens frequently runs photo promotions. It is always good to save your hard-earned group funds!
- Checkout and select store pickup or delivery. Most stores have same-day pickup availability.
Use your table banner to create a welcoming, professional table setup that coordinates with the rest of the materials in our FREE 1 Hour for Schools kit. It’s a great way to draw attention and build excitement around volunteering at school!
