Skip the Car Line Fundraiser: Tips & Free Canva Templates
Get tips for organizing a skip the car line fundraiser at school, plus free Canva templates: a flyer, social media graphic, and wearable QR code sign parents can scan to buy a ticket right from their car!
There are plenty of school fundraising incentives and auction prizes that families go bananas for: a gift basket stocked with butter squishies, NeeDoh, and mystery dumplings. A ride to school in a fire truck. A human car wash. Front row seats to the holiday concert. And then there’s the MVP: the “skip the car line” pass.
After spending approximately 90 hours in the car line over the course of the school year (yep, we did the math), the chance to bypass it entirely is something time-starved parents are willing to bid on. After the demand for this kind of fundraiser went viral on TikTok, PTOs and PTAs are now bringing the idea to their own schools and offering the coveted pass as a raffle prize or auction item.
Want to try a skip the car line fundraiser at your school? Since every school’s drop-off and pick-up format is different, there are several ways to make the idea work. Here’s a look at the format options, tips, and logistics to consider.

So, how does a skip the car line fundraiser actually work?
Some schools are selling raffle entries, while others are auctioning the pass to the highest bidder. Just check with your school administration about dismissal procedures and safety rules, as the “VIP” car line experience may need to mean a designated parking space or another approved arrangement rather than literally “cutting” through the car line.
For example, Oak Point Elementary PTA auctioned off VIP car line spots, including separate spots for afternoon pick-up and morning drop-off. Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary PTO offered $10 entries for a VIP car line raffle fundraiser, with winners getting front-of-the-line privileges for an entire semester. Another school offered a “Rock Star Parking Spot” that let the winner skip the afternoon car line and have their child brought directly to the car.
Your PTO can structure a skip the car line perk in whatever way makes the most sense for your school's drop-off and pick-up procedures. For example:
- Skip the line for a semester
- Skip the line for a month
- Skip the line for a week
- Get a designated VIP parking spot for the year
- Get a special morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up spot
- Get a package of several “skip the line” days
The logistics for a skip the car line pass
Set your price—and pick your format
There’s more than one way to turn a skip the car line pass into a fundraiser. If you’re selling raffle tickets, you might charge $5 for one ticket, $10 for three tickets, or $20 for ten tickets to encourage families to buy more than one. The more tickets they buy, the more entries they have in the drawing!
Or, skip ticket sales altogether and use the pass as a "perk". Some PTOs have offered entry into a skip the car line raffle to families who join the PTO, attend a PTO meeting, or sign up to volunteer. Others use the coveted pass for their school auction and let families bid to bypass the car line.
Whichever route you choose, do what makes the most sense for your school community. Car line procedures vary from school to school, and safety always comes first. Many schools specifically prohibit passing, changing lanes, or cutting into the line unless directed by staff. So, before you do anything, work with your principal to decide what a skip the car line drop-off or pick-up experience could realistically look like at your school. It might mean having designated VIP parking spots, a separate pick-up area, special entrance, or another arrangement that lets the winner skip the line without disrupting the flow of traffic.
Create a separate VIP skip the car line drop-off/pick-up lane or entrance
This is probably the cleanest setup if your school's campus has the space. A VIP car enters through a designated entrance, follows a separate route, and is directed by staff to a specific area. Some schools already use separate lanes/routes for different groups of car riders, so this would be an additional one.
Give VIP car line pass holders a designated parking or pick-up spot
Designate a parking space or short-term loading spot near the pick-up area and have a staff member bring students to that specific spot. One school shared they have cars pull into the bus loop, and those students get walked out before other students.
Give the VIP car line pass holders a specific arrival window
With this format, the winner gets a specified 5 or 10 minute window to use a designated entrance or pick-up area. This could work especially well if your school already has multiple dismissal periods or routes.
Use a separate VIP car line that merges under staff direction
If your school already operates multiple car rider lanes that merge or are released in stages, a VIP lane could potentially be incorporated into that system, but staff would need to control when those cars merge.
Promoting your skip the car line fundraiser (includes free templates)
Once you’ve decided how your skip the car line fundraiser will work, it’s time to get the word out. We’ve created three FREE skip the car line fundraiser templates to help you promote it.
1. Pass out flyers: Print and post flyers around school, hand them out at drop-off or pick-up, and send home with students to spread the word and explain how to participate.
2. Promote it on social media: Share it on your PTO or PTA’s Facebook and Instagram accounts to get families excited.
3. Wearable a QR code on a sign: This one’s probably our favorite! First, set up your online system using whatever fundraising or ticketing platform your PTO uses, then create a QR code that links directly to the entry page. Upload your QR code to our free Canva template (which is already sized at 18"x24" - perfect for a large cardboard moving box), attach it to a box, sandwich board, or other wearable setup, and send a PTO volunteer walking down the car line. Parents can scan the code right from their cars to buy a ticket (or 10!) and enter for a chance to skip the line.

Awarding skip the car line winners
Make the big reveal part of the fun! Announce your winner on your PTO’s social media, film a quick Reel of the drawing, or go live to pull the winning ticket. It’s a fun way to build excitement, encourage more families to follow your PTO’s socials, and keep everyone engaged in your next fundraiser. Just be sure to follow your school’s rules for filming and sharing student or family information.
Then make the prize feel official. Print out a VIP Skip the Car Line Pass with the winner’s name and the dates it’s valid, and present it like the prestigious honor it is! You could even laminate it or slip it into a clear hanging badge holder designed to hang from the rearview mirror (assuming your school allows it and it doesn’t obstruct the driver’s view).
