A fun way to celebrate teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week is to pick a popular movie and bring it to life with themed snacks and activities. With its iconic characters and powerful messages of friendship, determination, and resilience, Wicked is a movie that resonates with both teachers and students. From stocking the lounge with pink and green snacks (and munchkins, of course 😊) to a "Wicked Refreshing" hydration station for teachers, we've got you covered with free printables and themed ideas for every day of the week!

Ideas for a Wicked Teacher Appreciation Week

Our free "Wicked Awesome" Teacher Appreciation Week bundle includes a Teacher Appreciation Week itinerary with fun daily themes and activities. Use the themes on our itinerary, or customize it with some of the ideas below! 

  • "You're So Popular": Set up a popcorn bar in the teachers' lounge and offer various mix-ins, like M&Ms, skittles, mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, dried fruit, salt, Tajín, etc. Have cans of "pop" (soda) and lollipops, and notes of appreciation from students for teachers to read. Roll out the red carpet so your teachers know how popular they are! (Get a "POP"ular popcorn bar sign in our free bundle). You can also ask teachers ahead of time for their fave snacks and drinks and deliver to their classrooms via a "Wicked Oz-some Teachers" treat trolley.
  • Poppies/Flower Bar: Ask each student to bring in a flower to help their teacher have a restful weekend, set up a flower bar and invite teachers and staff to make their own bouquet of flowers, or give teachers and staff seed packets with a note reading, "Teachers plant the seeds of knowledge". Make red poppies to hang using red and black dollar store paper plates. 
  • "For Good": Small gifts, like potted succulents or seed packs, symbolize teachers' lasting impact on students. Ask students to write notes on yellow bricks (pieces of yellow construction paper) sharing how their teacher has made a difference in their lives. Display yellow "brick" notes along the school walls to make a yellow brick road. Frame this quote from the song, For Good: “So much of me is made of what I learned from you; you'll be with me like a handprint on my heart"
  • Emerald City Celebration: You'll be "green" with envy for this green-themed lunch! Provide salads for teachers and staff, along with a variety of pink and green snacks in the teachers' lounge. We even found a great Wicked photo backdrop you can hang in the teachers' lounge!
  • "Wicked Refreshing" Hydration Station: And yes, pink and green cups are a must! Use our free printable hydration station sign and Wicked inspired teacher drink recipes. You can find our "Wicked Refreshing" hydration station shopping list below. 
  • Somewhere Over the Rainbow: There's no place like the teachers' lounge! Invite teachers and staff to take a trip somewhere over the rainbow (that's the teachers' lounge, of course) where they can enjoy a rainbow-themed snacks and drinks displayed in rainbow order. 
  • "Wicked Sweet" Snacklebox Station: Set up a variety of pink and green candies, along with snacklebox containers, in the teachers' lounge, and invite your "wicked sweet" teachers and staff to make their own snackleboxes filled with their favorite sweet treats! You can use our handy snacklebox shopping list below to find inexpensive snacklebox containers and pink and green candies.
  • Have a "magical" breakfast or coffee cart with themed snacks like "Wizard Wands" (pretzel sticks) and "Emerald City" green drinks.
  • Let’s Taco ‘Bout Our "Wicked Good" Staff: Bring in catered Chipotle for teachers and staff. 
  • Create a “Wicked Awesome Wall” where students and staff can post funny and heartfelt reasons why their teachers are “wicked awesome".
  • "Defy Gravity" or "We Welcome You to Munchkin Land":  Provide coffee and munchkins, and decorate the teacher's lounge with plastic table cloths arranged in rainbow order, with floating white balloons as clouds.   • The PTO at Fine Arts Academy in WSISD Texas supplied teachers and staff with wands for a fun game: get caught without your wand, and you'll be turned into a flying monkey! How cute is that? Check out the video below!

“Wicked Refreshing” Hydration Station Shopping List

If you're using the “Wicked Refreshing” hydration station drink recipes and sign in our free Wicked Teacher Appreciation Week bundle, use the shopping list below for supplies. Tip: Teachers can adjust the amount of flavoring to their liking by adding more or less syrup, but we've heard that 2 tablespoons of syrup for every 16 ounces of water is just the right amount!

Consider chalking the walk with messages for Teacher Appreciation Week, inspired by Wicked and Wizard of Oz, like:
