Question: Board of ed president as PTO president

If one person holds both the office of PTO President and the office of President of the school district's board of education, would there be a conflict of interest? My first guess is that it would be since there is one individual with significant influence at both the school and district levels. If this is indeed a conflict of interest, how would a member of the PTO proceed with alleviating this conflict? Thank you so much for your assistance.

Does your group have a "conflict of interest policy"? A conflict of interest policy doesn't necessarily prohibit transactions/activities. It is supposed to ensure that all pertinent information - including any conflict of interest - is presented and considered when making the decisions. Your group should decide if being president of the PTO and the school board is a conflict of interest. Even if you don't have a policy in place, it would still make sense to have the discussion at an upcoming meeting.
