Question: Only one child

I am new to the PTO at our small privet school along with 2 of the other 7 people we have now. We have been asked to give the school $175 dollars to by bandannas for the school to where on the day that one of the first grade child comes back after brain surgery. Is the an appropriate use of our funds?

Many parent groups have "sunshine committees" to send out cards or buy flowers or something like that if someone has a serious illness or passes away; I don't see this as really being all that different, except that the amount is a little bigger. If the bandanas were pretty generic and done in the school colors, for example, they would be a nice show of solidarity and could be used again on other days as a sign of school spirit.
