In reference to questions about donations from artificial tree/wreaths, etc. I have tried numerous tree/wreath/decorations companies nationwide, but none of them have made donations to our annual Holiday Bazaar which will be held on November 22, 2014.

I send donations letters by e-mail to numerous NC choose and cut Christmas tree farms, and a few of them responded and made donations of choose and cut trees. The winner of that particular silent item would make a trip to Christmas tree farm to pick up their tree. This is first year we have tried , so don't know how popular those items will be.

Hi Meghan,

The W9 is the most commonly used IRS form; they are likely requesting it so that they can claim their tax exemption for their donation to your group/PTO. This way, they'll have your EIN and complete details to report to the IRS.

Has anyone run across corporations requesting a W-9? First time I've seen that. What is involved?

I am located in Philadelphia. Last year was my first year chairing it as opposed to just helping. Our event is raffle baskets and we went from 175 people to 330 people and increased our revenue from 12K to almost 20K. My best advice to you is to increase your hipe so that people will want to come. I created a FB event page and posted every single donation on it. It is time consuming, yes but in the end I had to turn people away. Everyone knew about it and everyone was following the event on Facebook.
