We're looking out now for the performers we'll bring in next year. I know that we want performers that our educational AND fun for the kids, but my question is about which way you'd lean or should lean if it's close. Several of the choices we are looking for are definitley fun but less educational and several are definitley educational but maybe dry for the kids. Anyone been down this road before?

Maybe you could talk to some teachers at the school and feel them out. The problem with a "dry" assembly is that it won't keep the kids attention and they'll start fidgeting.

I'm sorry but the whole reason for bringing someone in is to make things exciting. My kids can get dry textbook stuff anytime. If we're gonna pay to bring someone in he or she has to be both fun and entertaining. Veronica.

We have monthly PTO sponsored school-wide (K-6) assemblies that are EDUCATIONAL and FUN! If the kids are pulled from the classroom to attend an assembly it should be educational - otherwise important instructional time is sacrificed. We have a committee of teachers and parents that plan and/or OK all assemblies - they look for interesting and educational presentations / exhibits that fit with units of study and themes of academics that enrich our children's education, not distract from it. The students look forward to these monthly assemblies - they are like field trips brought in to campus. We bring in a variety of presentations from symphony orchestras to dancers to exotic animals to Native Americans to local artists and actors to famous authors. You have to get creative and be patient, you'll find assemblies that are fun AND educational.
