Anyone old enough to remember UP with PEOPLE?

5 Years, 4 Months ago

Up With People" was the name of both an organization and a performance event popular in the U.S. beginning in 1968 and continuing through the 1970s. The performance traveled around the country, playing in modest venues — school gymnasiums, hockey arenas, and the like. Approximately 40 volunteer student performers presented upbeat songs using vocal soloists, a choir, electric guitars, and other instruments. The music was accompanied by choreographed dance.

With that said...I have such fond memories of this group coming in grade school, we'd all sing their songs on the bus and it was such a positive message.

UP WITH PEOPLE has now become yhe WorldSmart leadership program and is not in the entertainment business anymore...

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a group similiar to what they used to be....singng, entertaining, positive message, etc.

Ideas? We're in Eastern PA.
Thanks!

Just so you know...You're not alone in being old enough to remember Up With People. We enjoyed their performances, too; unfortunately, I'm not aware of any groups like them. Good luck!

Up, up,up with people, there's people wherever you go! Up, up with people, we're the best kind of folks you know!

okay, so I'm an older Mom! How about your local high school's chorus or choir? Our HS usually performs at at least one elementary school per year and the HS musical kids also usually do an act at each of the elementary schools. It's a great partnership. Our HS concert or jazz band or orchestra also rotates through the elementary schools. At the end of each of the performances the adult leader will recognize the HS kids that went to that elementary school and they get a big round of applause. And they're free!

Oh my God, I just feel so old now! I do remember them but the only groups that I know of like that are out of our own local high schools. You might want to call yours and see if they have one going.

Fond memories though. Why don't they get back into it???

I just wanted you to know that during the mock election today, I couldn't stop singing the "Up with People song!" I even got my other helper singing it by the end of the day. This won't fade soon....
