WOW!!! It's finally over. We got a check for over $11,000 and the "bad" president pled guilty to a Class C felony Theft in the First Degree. But there still is over $30,000 missing. According to our state law, it has been too long to do anything about it. I would like to thank President Jim for all of his help. And all of the advice from everyone else. Our next meeting is coming up and we have lots of money to give to teh teachers and students. Thanks again.
I think you are very courageous to pursue this and to be President! I am sending you good wishes for your term, you are a very good example to the kids and school.

We had a story in the paper recently about a booster club treasurer who embezzled quite a bit. She wasn't charged as she and the organization came to a private agreement as to restitution. However, since the story was published the local DA's office has charged her, saying they have an obligation to protect the public and to discourage similar thefts - regardless what arrangement was reached with the organization.
It finally happen!!! The former PTO president did admit to taking the money. And the place where she wrote the check to, was her family's own business. The law only went back 4 years and the amount is over $11,000. So, I will have my day in court next month. Hopefully by the end of the school year the kids will get some items that they all deserve. We are trying to get some additional playground equipment for our school. Right now we have a nice playground. But there is only 1 item for the KG and preschool kids to play on. So, when you have 28 little kids playing on the same thing...it gets kind of crazy out there. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on what to do. I will post again after court.
1919: sorry to hear the outcome, but keep us posted. Let this be a lesson that you need to create sound bylaws and set up your PTO bank account with 2 signatures needed on each check. Make sure the books are checked when the Treasurer changes hands or every 3 years (whichever is first).
