Are the By-laws the same in every state? I have looked at other schools websites and notice some are a little different.

Too bad you guys aren't PTA's. PTA's have officer and chairman handbooks and guides for every office, plus training locally as well as at the state events. Just one of the things your dues go for so your officers aren't in the dark!

BYLAWS....Somewhere in your building or someone's house there must be a copy of bylaws. These will outline all executive board members duties. If you can't find any, email me (Publisher's Note -- this user has received nearly 100 requests for her by-laws and has asked -- OK, maybe begged! -- that we stop the flood. We'll try to get a copy of her by-laws online. In the meantime, visit the "PTO Websites" section of this forum for links to dozens of sample by-laws. -- TS)

Check you By-Laws, I am the president of a high school PTO, Bradwell Institute, in Georgia. Our by-laws are specific to each officers duties as well as chairman and committee members. If I were you I'd start with the by-laws or constitution.

I am with ptopres on this one. I am new to the PTO also. I was elected to be secretary with no idea of what is expected of me.My suggestion to help with future membership and involvement was to get information on what positions were available and what they
entailed. My problem is where to get this information? example: President- your duties are...Vice President- your duties are...I feel with the more knowlegde, the more people would be willing to volunteer and help boost morale. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.-Amanda

My son is entering Kindergarten this upcoming school year. Back in May, I was elected the new PTO President for the upcoming year. I was thrilled and extremely excited. I still am, however trying to get information for what a President's "responsibilities" are is almost nil. Since this is all new to me as well, I am trying to get as much information as I can BEFORE our first meeting. All the officers elected for the upcoming year are new (within a year), as well, so information is limited. . I am looking for somesort of handbook or information on the President, as well as, the Officers responsibilities. Also, the terminoligy of beginning a meeting and what questions need to be asked. Being new, I don not want to step on anyone's toes or come across like I'm trying to run the "whole show" however, I do feel I need to know the "insides" of ALL the happenings. Could someone please help me out. I'm spinning in circles. Thank you for any help or information you could give to me.
