Decisions and Dilemmas

I am not sure I am reading the posts right but if a committee is not performing up to the expectations of the board then at a executive board meeting they could discuss the topic. But if a committee chair is to be removed they must bring the alleged wrong doing to the general membership and a vote must be taken. I do not feel the executive board as the sole power to remove a chair. In business it may work that way but in PTO etc... there are too many "personality" conflicts to allow that to happen. I think the general membership should have a say.
If the board wants to run the newsletter instead of letting the committee handle it, why didnt they just make it a board committee and not ask for volunteers???

Have you tried to tape record meetings? Our secretary does this as well as the people who write the newsletter?? Just a thought>>>does the principal have any advice for you? Also, have you tried bringing up a motion to change your by-laws to detail specific job duties?? If the membership agrees to change the wording your executive board cannot "road block" you >>Good Luck:)

How far can I go (legally) with out being in too much trouble?

They (executive board) are refusing the notes and send me to a neutral party who gave me the answer of no notes were taken. Several questions were asked along with names at that meeting all were written down. I'm to the point of where I'm discouraged, disappointed, and embarrassed about this board.

The exec. meeting (in my experience) does not really have minutes. We mainly have just notes, but you should be able to get a copy of both sets of minutes. The exec. meeting is talking about things to be brought up at the regular meeting and at the regular meeting those items are discussed and voted on. With both sets you would be able to let the parents and community know that no decision was made solely from the exec. board--that it was a decision made by the entire organization. I hope that I have helped. If I have not answered you, please let me know and I will try better next time.

Does that mean the meetings held with the executive board and the PTO meetings? I have attended some executive board (private) meetings and none of the minutes have been published for my records.

What is the next step in obtaining those minutes?

Being on the newsletter committee should automatically give you access to the minutes from every meeting. This committee is designed to read the minutes and publish them and any other important information that needs to be said. Such as, the next meeting, what the pto has planned for the next activity or event. Keep trying.
