Why is she the only treasurer on your board???? Have you not read any articles about treasurers stealing funds because there were no basic policies in place.
I think the first thing I would do is call her into a special meeting with the principal-- and let her know what she is doing is wrong and that these are the proper procedures...
And if you don't have any, then you should be forming a special by-laws committee to change your by-laws to accommodate 2 treasurers, and outline a procedure for voting on and paying for certain awards and activities that the pto will pay for.

If you are looking to vacate the position (remove the person currently holding the position) and if your by-laws are based on Robert's Rules of Order, there are certain steps to take to ensure that the removal is done properly. You may want to consult with the parliamentarians at the The Official Robert's Rules Of Order Web Site website, or pick up a copy of the Robert's Rules book.

Send her a registered letter and outline what steps you are taking. Be prepared to have someone assume her duties. Go to the bank and change the signature card (if you can) and be done with this. The only thing worse than having this go on as long as it has is allowing it to go on one more day.

If she has promised things that should have been voted on by the board, then it should be out of her own pocket, not PTO funds. She is violating bylaws by not putting these decisions to vote. You need ot convince the rest of the board that her actions are hurting the PTO and eventually the students. She needs to be removed any way your bylaws allow.

OK, here's the thing. So what if she is treasurer and the sole signature required on the checks. If she writes a check to pay for or reimburse expenses that weren't voted for and approved then she is stealing from the PTO. Make sure she understands that.

If she continues to make promises to the kids for unapproved activities then she pays for it out of her own pocket. She makes the promises, gets to be the big hero and then you're the bad guy if you say no?!?!?! Only if you fall for it. Don't. Tell her that you have no record of the PTO approving this activity and, therefore, there will be no PTO funds spent on it. How she pulls it off after that is up to her.

I understand bullies and the fact that they can be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to deal with. She's a bully. But you have the authority to put a stop to it. Provide a copy of the bylaws. Provide copies of meeting minutes with documented approvals.

No more "knock down, drag outs". They aren't working any way. As president of your team, take a strong leadership stance and require your fellow officers to do the same. Behave professionally. Speak authoritatively. Stick to your bylaws and your approved motions.

Hello Again,
Well my treasurer is at her tricks again. We had an A/AB Honor Roll Assembly and she totally embarassed me. She does the assembly because it was her idea. The children love it, normally they receive certificates and candy for their effort. This time she purchased a gift card for a teacher and told the grade that had the most honor roll students that PTO would buy them ice cream. My problem is that she did not talk to me neither did the PTO meet to vote on the matter. She really did not need to do either because to motivate the children we was going to have movie day and PTO supplies the popcorn. Today we have a meeting and I am afraid that it is not going to go well. That is not my intention, but I am so tired of this person. I thought that if we cooled off during the Christmas Holidays maybe she would change but she just got more deceitful. I don't want to run off the other board members, but I am so tired of this person. Share with me your feelings please, I really would like to ask her to step down and leave the checkbook. I do not feel we can trust her anymore to do what we need her to do because she has the checkbook.
