Parent Information Conference

1 Year, 7 Months ago

I just returned Friday from the National Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) conference on parent involvement in education. I was greatly impressed with the speakers including Joyce Epstein, Ann Henderson and Karen Mapp! The leading voices in research on the benifits of parent involvement in education.
But I was confused, while nearly every state PTA was in attendence, I did not see anyone from PTO Today?

Ummmm... our invitation must have been lost in the mail???? I get what you're getting at none-too--subtly, but I'm not sure of your point. Sounds like it was a good line-up of speakers. I've met and spoken to and corresponded with (and certainly read the writings of) all of those experts many times over the past 10+ years.

Hope you got a lot out of it and that kids (and families and schools) around the country continue to benefit from the good work of the PIRCs.

Really nice approach though Participant...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that you care. Wonder what the venue is to advertise this event since I know our PTO wasn't aware of it either. Too bad.

There are no hidden agendas at a PIRC National Convention, you only need to look to your state' website concerning PIRC, if you are interested in being involved, please contact them, same holds true for attendance at PIRC meetings and Conference. PTA not have a monoply on PIRC, they invite us because because they know we are there.

Im not certain why Tim wasnt present, but he sbould have known when the Conferences were held, so im guessing a previous commitment. Get out and make yourself known to PIRC but be aware, they do reach beyond what happens just in you school, they are state and national affliated, too, so it does go beyond neighborhood, just in case thats not what you wanted.421
