Our PTA membership is voting Sept 18th

1 Year, 6 Months ago

We have already sent out the letter to NC state PTA to notify them that we will be voting on September 18th about changing to a PTO and dissolving our current PTA. My questions is--can kindergarten parents join and pay their $4 PTA dues this week so they can vote next week? If so, does that need to be considered PTA dues and send $2.75 of that money to the NC PTA or can they be considered PTO dues? Also, if members can't make it in person to vote, can they cast their vote on paper?

As I understand it, yes they can join and then vote but yes that portion of the dues will have to be sent up the channels as it is PTA they are joining, not PTO. Also as I understand it, all votes must be made in person. PTA sure makes it a pain to disband, although if you start up your PTO first and then no one joins the PTA or seves on its board, the PTA will be closed automatically.

Under the bylaws of PTA a member has to belong for 30 days prior to being eligible to vote.
