PTSA to PTO! HELP ASAP!

PTSA to PTO! HELP ASAP! was created by Kymlet
I am currently the NEW President of an incomplete PTSA board from the year before. The NEW board wants to change to PTO and we all talked about it in length and agreed that we should do this. Our bylaws haven't been updated since 1994 and are incomplete anyway. We can't find any info. on changing or disbanding. We have a local PTSA Guru that is calling the school demanding to talk to me and is very upset and asked the principal when our next meeting is. We recently did a fundraiser that was set up by the little board they had last year and that board disappeared when it came time to do the fundraiser, so the NEW board did it. Question is.......can this money be taken away from us? And the money left over from last year? The old president said she couldn't spend the money because there was no one to vote at the meetings!!!! We are talking about $30,000 between last years money and fundraiser profits this year! I can't imagine what we'd do if they took it away from us! Somebody help me....I really don't know what to tell this woman. All I know is the new board and I all agree we do not think that it is beneficial for our school to be a part of PTSA and that our principal is supporting our decision and we have the same goals as a PTSA......our students and their education! Can anyone give me real advice on what to do? I need exact steps because we have nothing to go by. This school is located in Wisconsin if that helps any. Thank you.
