I need help

It would help to have by-laws but the way your situation sounds "they" are going to do whatever "they" want your group to be doing. (Sorry to lump together but I gather you know who I mean.)

I am the President of a PTO in a Charter School and do know the first year or two was one of really asking the question 'How can we serve you and what function will our group serve the syudents?' We are now in our fifth year and things are much better with the admin but still trying to warm up to the teachers. My thought is a meeting with ALL the staff is really needed. Without actually saying it but the main question that needs to be answered is "You wanted this so what do you want us to do." I really understand there is not much you can do with a limited budget but it needs to be out in the open what the expectations for this PTO are in order for it to work. I really hope they don't come back and tell you that you are the main fundraising group for their needs the best could be THEY aren't even sure what they want or need from you!

I really wish you the best on this one and hope I have helped!

Does your group have by-laws? There are lots of samples in this forum. Why did the Administration decide to go PTO instead this year? Maybe you should sit down with them and see what they want the group to do and maybe if you can come to common goals they may be more cooperative.

I am the President of our newly formed PTO, our school is a high school alternative school. In the past, we had site base, which attending was a requirement, as all of our students and parents have to sign a contract to participate, do as well as possible, be courteous. Our school only accepts 50 kids per semester, this year the "teachers and administration" decided to switch to PTO instead of site base. This is fine, except some of the teachers and administration seem to be putting walls up whenever our officers want to do something. We voted to pull $500.00 from last year's money to go into our PTO account this year, to cover our fundraiser expenses, but we were told that it was against the law to do that. Is that true? We just had a bake sale and this money will be going into our new account. The administrators (which consists of the principal and a couple of teachers} have not been cooperating with any of us and everytime we try to do something, they tell us we can't. I have gotten some good information off of this site, so please help. Thanx
