I run a scrip program at a private school. Our program has been around awhile so we are able to have inventory on-hand for orders. Our inventory is in boxes and stored in a fireproof safe in a small office. THe boxes are taken out of the safe each morning by me and volunteer sellers sell each morning for 30 minutes. We open about 5-10 minutes before the bell rings. For those who cannot come in the morning, we have "family scrip envelopes." They are plastic envelopes with a string tie. The parent can prepare their order on an order form with payment and have their child submit it to the office in the morning. The sellers fill the order and it is locked in the safe, or left with the secretary. Near the end of the school day, the student is summoned to the scrip office to pick up the order and sign for it, and reminded to put in their backpack or homework folder.
For schools that cannot keep inventory, but order scrip when families order it, you can summon the student later in the week when the order arrives to sign for the scrip. Great Lakes Scrip does allow families to order on-line with Presto pay and the scrip person has to release the order. Since we keep inventory on hand, we have not utilized this service.
