Ew, they seem to be a popular fundraiser but I'm not thrilled with them. They're smelly pencils, therefore, smencils. The scent is a bit overwhelming... But they do help groups raise a lot of money!

This is such a neat idea!
When are they doing this? How will they collect the money? Who is doing all the driving and placing, and how are they handling that?
It sounds like a lot of fun, but a lot of details involved also.

Every year our 5th grade parents try to raise money for a big bash at the end of the year. Last year they sold "Smencils" and the entire student body loved it. This year the parents have come up with something really cute. Our principal loves flamingos. Flamingos are everywhere. So these parents decided that they would get some of those plastic, pink flamingos that you put in the yard. They sent out a flyer saying that a flock of flamingos has been sited in our area and could land in anyone's yard -- you just never know. For $20 you can have them removed from your yard, for $25 you can have them removed and name the home where they will show up next, and for $15 you could pay insurance that will prohibit them from landing in your yard. (You can also have them moved at no charge if you don't want to "play".) I don't know how the team will do with this -- but I thought it was cute.
