We give about $100 to each k-5 teacher depending on how well there snack sales go and we budget $100 each for 4 other teachers spec ed, reading etc. In addition we try to give all teachers including gym etc some money if we have special events like book sales etc.

I think that is a great idea to give to everyone. We also give to our teachers. We have only about 120 students and we give $40 to each teacher. We used to only give to k-5, but now we give to the special ed teachers too. They are with children all day too. It can make for some hard feelings if you leave dedicated people out. Just my opinion.

I am the P.T.O president of a newly formed P.T.O. We would like to give each teacher of our school $100 for room money. We are a small school (under 200 kids). My dilemma is: it is the opinion of some of our members that the "special" teachers i.e.: resource, writing to read lab, reading recovery..in other words, part time teachers should not receive as much money as our regular full time teachers. The argument is that they receive funds from other sources. In the past...they have also given the special needs teacher less than the regular division for this reason too. I am a special needs Teacher's Aide in another school and know what that "extra" money goes for: wipes, gloves, and a special mouthpiece for administering C.P.R to a student who has been known to stop breathing. It's not like they are getting big screen televisions and easy chairs. I would like to know how other P.T.O groups handle this. I want to be fair to everyone who works with "our" children.
