Committee Idea

Does anyone have a committee that deals with reaching out to your members in a time of need? Situations such as severe illness in a family or a fire in a home would be covered. Or maybe a teacher in the school is diagnosed with cancer. We currently deal with these things inconsistently and would like to do a better job of reaching out. Any suggestions??

We have a Sunshine/Hospitality Committee that sends out a card or a basket!

Our corresponding secretary sends cards and arranges for the librarian to purchase a book in honor/memory of a persom. This year we stared a "Friends in Need" committee to offer more, say providing meals, babysitting or whatever a family would need in the event of a loss. We have limited it to include students, staff and caregivers of students that have a need.

We have a Goodwill Chairpeson who follows specific guidelines for deaths/hospitalizations/severe illnesses etc. Genereally a card is sent, with a basket or monetary donation ($20-$25) in a designated amount. For a fire or something out of the ordinary, we would all decide as a group on the appropriate gesture. Probably a donation from the PTO and a seperate collection from individual families who would like to show additional support.
Hope this helps you!

Thanks to all who have answered! Your replies have been helpful. I have another question for juliedio: You mentioned "specific guidelines." Are these guidelines you have come up with as a group? In what cases do you send a basket? I was wondering since it could get costly.
Thanks again!
