Dress Codes

Our school's handbook states that either pants shall fit properly, or student shall have a belt on. If neither applies, then parent will be called to bring either proper fitting pants or a belt.

Actually, our school used to "loan" out belts, but they were never returned. Last year, the office started using twine like rope for belts. Inexpensive quick fix and VERY embarrassing to those who wore them. Really stopped the sagging pants problem. Can't you picture it? Kind of like Jethro from Beverly Hillbillies. Definately NOT COOL!! HA! Our problem is the parent who wears the sagging pants to pick up their kid from school.

Is there a student handbook?? We give out a student handbook each year that has all the school rules on absences, dress code, how to act while in school and so on...

My school has that in place already. They send the dress code home every year with the other rules and regulations. If they don't dress properly then the parents are called to come and get them so they can go home and change. But this is a board decision and not a PTO one. Maybe if you get a group of parents and go befroe the school board then you can get it changed. Melissa

Good Day! I am new here so forgive me if my inquiry is somewhat redundant. I am curious to know if there has been any new ideas or discussions with regard to modifying standard dress codes in public schools to prohibit the improper wear of slacks and jeans for boys. I can appreciate that each generation has its own fads, but the sagging of jeans to the extent undergarments are exposed is simply not acceptable to me. I believe it has been long overdue for the education system to take a stronger stance on this. In my opinion, the solution is not allow the student to wear longer shirts but to send a message to both students and parents as to what is considered appropriate attire for a learning environment. Any comments?
