I don't know if this answers your question... This past Friday Night we had a game night as a 6th grade activity. In a 6-8 grade Middle School, we decided not to invite 6th graders to the 1st school dance and instead offer a 6th grade only activity to encourage them to get to know each other...
The theme was "Family Feud" redubbed as "Team Feud" as our Middle School has 2 teams to each grade.
For $5.00 we offered plenty of pizza and drinks and the Feud. Food for the most part was served from 6-630pm and then the Feud from 6:30-8:30pm with a 15min break in between.
2 teachers from each team came: 1 male teacher from each team shared the emcee title and the other teachers helped quiet or rally the kids, when needed. Principal and vice-principal were judges.
Questions ranged from music to sports to school-related to whatever! Points were assigned to more
common/popular answers. Kids were called up 8 at a time to each group (white or red team). One group had a bell and the other a bike horn as a answer caller. (We swapped half-way as the bell seemed easier and heard more often.) The question went back and forth to each team 3 times and a point value was assigned to each answer.
Parent helpers scored the points on a portable blackboard. (Parents in abundance helped with food, made sure the group didn't get out of hand, kept an eye on the bathrooms, etc.) It turned out (perhaps with help) one team won over the other by 2 points.
All participants will get a coupon for ice cream. Members of the winning team will get a prize to be determined.
EVERYONE had a blast and the principal and vice were THRILLED! The D.A.R.E. officer was also there as an extra adult... The Middle School has never offered a separate event like that for 6th graders.
