I am in charge of organizing our school's family fun night this year. We are a small school (250 students) in grades K-8. We usually serve pizza and ice cream but I need fresh ideas for the entertainment portion of the evening. We have done country line dancing and bingo in the past but are looking for something different. Any ideas would be welcome! Thanks!

I dont know if this will work for your school, a talent show the kids put on is a big hit, expecialy for the younger ones and parents will show up to watch the kids. Can be a quick play, singing a song, singing the alphabet ( for Young ones)etc.
hope this helps

Thanks for the idea, but the school holds a talent show in the spring, so I will need something different. I appreciate your input though!

We have a group in our county. They call themselves the Bee Spring Opry. We are a small town, every one knows everyone, they dress up as an opposite sex country singer and lipsync. For our Angel Tree fundraiser last Christmas our teachers got into this too. It was very funny and everyone had a good time. If your staff and volunteers like the idea but don't want to do it then you might could recruit some community leaders.

We get a DJ for our Family Fun Night. The kids K-8 dance along with their parents (if you can believe that one!). It's a real family affair. We've also invited Radio Disney. Their DJ's come and play music and games with the kids and even bring their own prizes. We also get an airbrush tattoo artist. Every year we want to get different entertainment but the kids beg for the tattoo guy to come back. He charges about $150 for three hours (unlimited tattoos) but the kids go back for more and more tattoos. We have about 150 kids. We also buy and get prizes donated and give each child 5 tickets at the door and do a chinese auction. Everything is free and we can usually do it for under $500!

Our Title 1 staff is in charge of our family night and for the past 2 years they have entertained us with Professional Storytellers. They are amazing at what they do. Half of the families would listen to a story while the other half went to the gym to play games - parents play a game with their children - games like 'ants in pants' 'uno' 'candyland' 'old maid' When they finished a game they went on to another 'game station'. They had door prizes where a couple of kids won a game. Every child went home with a new book. The groups switched rooms after 1/2 an hour. Everyone had a great time.
