new family fun night

6 Years, 6 Months ago

hi there, we are a k-6 school and we are having our first family fun night. we wanted to combine it with a "meet the pta" kind of theme so that new parents could walk around in a comfortable informal setting and ask questions about different events and committees. at the same time we are having simple ideas for the kids to do like face painting, making bead bracelets, etc. we are going to have this on a wednesday night due to some time restraints (we wanted to do it before the next pta meeting) and this raised issues with some people. so my question is when do most of you hold your family nights? on a weekday or friday/saturday night? we are hoping to have a family movie night some time this year too but i would definitely make sure it was a friday night. thanks for any input you can give! : )

We are a K-6 school of 400 students. I found weeknight family nights too crowded to allow the children time to do all the fun things we had available. Now that I am planning fun nights, I will try to have them on a weekend. Also try your local YMCA for programs. Ours just started a great age-appropriate Saturday night program.

We have all our Family Events on Friday nights, our committee plans a Monster Mash dance, Game night(Bingo), Beach party and Story time nights - where the teachers read stories after a puppet show and hot cocoa and cookeis - All our events are very popular. Hope this helps.

We usually have our activities on Friday or Saturday night. Your activity sounds similar to a back to school night which we hold during the week. Regardless, I would listen to the parents as they are the ones who will attend as to whether the weekend or weekdays are better. Sounds like a fun event!
