What a fantastic turnout!!! You obviously made your parents feel welcome and comfortable to get that many to the school. Great job!!!

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

I just wanted to let you know about a great event we have started at our school. We ran two Read and Feed night last year and they were great..
What we did for Read and Feed.Twice a year we hold a read and feed night, the children bring there family to the school media center. The children read a book to their family, take a A.R. test on the book they read. When the child passes the A.R. test they can pick out one book to keep, they also get a ticket for there family to eat dinner. We have pizza, pop, and a cookie or pasta, bread, and a pop. We work hard to get everything donated (books to give away, food, paper product, ext.)The last two read and feed night we had around 550 of our 700 students come out. We are a low income school with over 70% of our student on free or reduced lunch. Much of our children's parents do not speek english, and are often shy about reading and helping their kids with home work and other events, because their own lack of schooling. This event help us to show the kids that mom and dad do cair about their reading. It helps show mom and dad that they can help their kids. It also give us a chance to bring title one information to the parents. It is a lot of fun for all. We are hopefull it will bring up our fcat as well, the more we can get the parents involved the better it is for the kids. ;)
