It sounds like a lot for me but only you can tell what would work for your school, there are however alot of other low cost family nights you could offer.

We are not holding a movie night this year. It was poorly attended last year and we did not even break even on the night (movie license).

We are instead doing Reading, Fine Arts, Sock Hop (maybe two if successful), Christmas Shop, and Carnival.

You can always us high school students to volunteer if they are in need of community service hours. We had a nice turn out of high school helpers last year.

If the license is for one year...could you spread the movie night over two school years? i.e. do one in November, February, April and then start off the new school year with one in August/September and October.

Just a thought.

Another event we do that requires very few volunteers is bingo night. Our principal calls the numbers. We only need the volunteers for the prize table and to pass out bingo cards.

Thanks Tim for your response. The good thing about movie night is that we are splitting the labor and cost with Student Council. They are willing to do movie nights but are unable/unwilling to volunteer with other events. Since we currently have all of 4 volunteers for any event from PTO (our parent participation is low) doing things like reading night and game night prove to be difficult for us. But at movie night we have kids selling the tickets, concessions and making the annoncments. All we need adults for are to start the projector and to supervise. :(

Seems like a lot to me, mainly because there are so many other good choices for family activites. I love movie night, but I'd -- and I think a lot of parents -- would get tired of all those movie nights. Reading Night is great. Game Night. Pasta Supper. So many....

The place we buy our license from has just invoiced us for a 1 year license. In order to make this worth it we would need to do 5 movie nights. Initially that seemed impossible and so everyone is wanting me to cancel it and we'll just do individual licenses' for each movie. I dont know what exactly my hesitiation is on this but I really want the 1 year license. So i'm wondering if it would be impossible to do 5 movie nights through the year.

If you were just a parent in the school do you think a movie night in November, December, January, Febuary and March would be too much? Do you think you'd feel burned out?

We're already planning a movie night in November and then we were thinking January and then March or April. So really we're only trying to squeeze in 2 more but May is out leaving it to Feburary and both March AND April.
Or trying for 1 in October.
